Endemic to Sumatra, this is a variable species but is known for generally having a wide peristome and red to purple pitcher colouration. This clone was carefully selected over 20 years from amongst many, as being the most vigorous, as well as having the deepest and most uniform purple colouration.
The specific epithetbongso refers to the Indonesian legend of Putri Bungsu (literally "youngest daughter"), the spirit guardian of Mount Marapi.
